    A 2.4 mile ride up the Heavenly Mountain Gondola will leave you breathless as you take in panoramic views of Lake Tahoe.     This magnificient "castle", which is situated majestically among towering pines and cedars, was built as a summer home by Lora Josephine Knight in 1929. Mrs. Knight decided that the only building appropriate to the impressive setting of Emerald Bay was to be of Scandinavian architecture. Now a National and Califiornia landmark, Vikingsholm is available for public tours during the summer months. The tours are conducted by the experenced and knowledgable guides of the Sierra State Parks Foundation. All proceeds go towards the restoration and education efforts for Vikingsholm.

    The Taylor Creek Visitor Center offers a wide range of maps, brochures, wilderness permits, and interpretive programs. It is the hub for the start of four fascinating self-guided trails. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center at Lake Tahoe is open from Memorial Day weekend through October 31. Several trails begin at the Visitor Center and meander through forest, marsh, streamside, and beach habitats.

    Located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada, Donner Memorial State Park offers the summer vacationer opportunities for camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, water-skiing, and hiking. Visitors are welcome year-round at the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center and at the Pioneer Monument, built to commemorate those who emigrated to California from the east in the mid-1800's.     Eagle Lake Trail is a 1.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near South Lake Tahoe, CA that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and snowshoeing and is accessible from May until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

    Hellman-Ehrman Mansion

    Hellman-Ehrman Mansion

    Take a step back in time and enjoy a tour of the histroic grounds and The Mansion located in the day use side of the park. Constructed in 1903, the property is one of the finest examples of a by-gone era of summer retreats found along the shores of Lake Tahoe. The house was built by San Francisco financier, I.W. Hellman, for his beloved family to enjoy the clean air and refreshing waters of Lake Tahoe. The property, containing the estate and 2,000 acres, was sold to the State of California in 1965. This National and State landmark is now open to the public for tours during the summer months by the Sierra State Parks Foundation.
